Do I need a Pool Safety Certificate for my property in Virginia?

You will only be affected by the latest pool laws if you are selling or leasing a property with a pool. Once certified, private residential pool safety certificates will be valid for a period of 2 years regardless of how many times they are sold or leased in that period.

However if you own or manage a shared pool in a Hotel, Resort, Motel, Backpackers, Hostel, Caravan park or block of units. Your pool safety certificate will only be valid for 12 months. All shared pools associated with short-term accommodation have a 6-month phase in period from the legislation date by which they must be certified if they wish to continue selling rooms. This means accommodation providers in Virginia only have until the end of May 2011 to make their pool barriers compliant and have a valid FORM 23 - pool safety certificate registered on the lot.
